I hope you enjoy the time off most of you will have these days.
Just relax, breathe, enjoy the company of your loved ones and the candle light in your home.
And sleep 'a hole in the day' (or is that just a Dutch expression?).
Meanwhile I'm continuing packing and sending your orders. Just a few less than the past month, which is fine by me for now ;-).

Ik hoop dat jullie genieten van de vrije dagen die de meesten van jullie ook wel zullen hebben.
Geniet van de rust, haal diep adem en geniet van je geliefden en je huis. En slaap 'een gat in de dag'!
Ondertussen verzend ik gewoon jullie bestellingen. Iets minder dan de afgelopen maand, maar voor nu vind ik dat even niet zo erg ;-)!

Nordic Inspiration: small and light Stockholm apartment

This small apartment is one of those authentic Stockholm homes. Small, but in a beautiful old building and decorated sparingly. The walls are white to reflect the light, the black accents give the necessary contrast and the hints of light wood enhance the urban Scandinavian feel.

Dit is een typisch Stockholms appartement: klein, maar gelegen in een prachtig oud gebouw en spaarzaam ingericht. Witte muren, zwart voor het nodige contrast en wat blond hout zorgen voor het stadse Scandinavische gevoel.

VT Wonen TV loft make-over with concrete lamps

Dutch interior design magazine VT Wonen recently introduced a make-over TV-series on SBS6.
Last night, in issue 10, an industrial loft was transformed by stylist Frans Uyterlinde. He did a fantastic job and many people commented this was the best make-over of this season.
I'm proud we had a small contribution to this make-over with the Edison lamps in concrete and glass by Swedish designer Tove Adman.
The concrete lamps were mounted over the dining table (see photo), the glass lamps were used as bedside lamps.
The owners, PA Wendy and DJ Jordy couldn't believe what they saw when they entered their new home and were extremely happy with the results.

VT Wonen is nu ook op TV met de serie 'Weer verliefd op je huis' op SBS6. Gisteravond, in aflevering 10, transformeerde stylist Frans Uyterlinde de industriële loft van PA Wendy en DJ Jordy in Eindhoven. Volgens velen de beste make-over van het seizoen.
Ik ben er trots op dat Nordic Blends een kleine bijdrage heeft kunnen leveren aan deze prachtige loft met de Edison lampjes in beton en glas van de Zweedse vormgeefster Tove Adman.
De betonnen lampjes kregen een plek boven de bijzondere eettafel en de glazen lampjes zijn gebruikt als bedlamp. De bewoners waren ondersteboven van de fantastische plek die Frans voor hun creëerde.

All is new at Norm Architects

My love for Norm Architects' style will probably last forever. The second posting on this blog, 3 1/2 years ago, was about them.
Last week they announced their new website and showed the most beautiful photos of their new studio in Copenhagen. They're such a pleasure for the eye and I love sharing them with you. The rooms are decorated in their sigature minimalistic style and it seems to leave plenty of room for people and their creative process.

Mijn liefde voor de stijl van Norm Architects' zal waarschijnlijk nooit voorbij gaan. De tweede posting op dit blog, nu 3 1/2 jaar geleden, ging al over hun.
Vorige week maakten zij hun gloednieuwe website bekend en lieten ze fantastische foto's zien van hun nieuwe studio in Kopenhagen. Een feest om naar te kijken en ik deel ze met veel plezier met jullie. De studio is ingericht in hun kenmerkende minimalistische stijl en geeft zo te zien alle ruimte aan mensen en hun creatieve proces.

Sneak peek at the new logo

It's been quiet on my blog lately. I'm so sorry for the silence, BUT here at the Nordic Blends office I'm working late hours restyling the webshop.
I decided some time ago it was time for a new webshop with more consumer friendly options and a better back office for myself. The current logo was also not entirely fit for the goal I have with Nordic Blends' collection. So I decided to take that to the next level too.
The new logo is powerful and timeless. It has been ready for some time now and my new business cards have been printed. They are a subtle grey with a bold copper print.

Subscribers to the newsletter have already seen it, but off course I wanted to let you guys have a look too!
In a few weeks the webshop will be ready... sit tight :-).

Het is een beetje stil geweest op mijn blog. Sorry voor deze radiostilte MAAR achter de schermen wordt keihard gewerkt aan de restyling van Nordic Blends webshop.
Enige tijd geleden besloot ik dat het tijd was voor een nieuwe webshop. Eentje met meer opties voor mijn klanten en een betere backoffice voor mezelf. En als ik toch een nieuwe shop ging bouwen, mocht het logo ook wel mee in de restyling. 
Het nieuwe logo is krachtig en tijdloos. Ik ben er blij mee. Het is nu een tijdje klaar en de visitekaartjes zijn gedrukt. Ze zijn zachtgrijs met een opvallende koperen opdruk. 

Abonnees op de nieuwsbrief hebben het al gezien, maar ik wil het jullie ook graag laten zien!
Over een paar weken is de nieuwe shop ook klaar... nog even :-)!

Nordic Inspiration: the home of graphic designer Rikke Albrechtsen

When you are a fan of Danish design you can consider taking a subscription to Danish interior design magazines. I can recommend it! From Bolig Magasinet comes this feature on the home of graphic designer Rikke Albrechtsen, owner at Quote Grafik.
Rikke changes her home quite a lot. It doesn't mean you have to drive by the furniture store every time. Putting a lamp in a different spot will have an instant effect. All you need to buy are some new cushions and a plaid and your room is magically transformed.
Keep the base in neutyral tones and stay away from plastic en bright colours, is her advice. Rikke's bank has been siiting there for 10 years and most art work are gifts from her parents.Would you ever notice?
In Rikke's home you will find items by Vitra, Hay, Menu, Louise Roe, Ferm Living en Arne Jacobsen.

Als je Deens designliefhebber bent, kun je overwegen een abonnement te nemen op Deense woonbladen. Ik kan het aanraden! Uit Bolig Magasinet komt deze reportage over de woning van grafisch designer Rikke Albrechtsen van Quote Grafik.
Rikke verandert vaak iets in haar huis. Als je dat slim doet, hoef je volgens haar echt geen vaste klant te zijn bij meubelwinkels. Het verplaatsen van een lamp heeft al een direct effect. Met de aankoop van een paar nieuwe kussens en een plaid ziet je kamer er direct heel anders uit.
Hou de basis neutraal en blijf weg van plastic en felle kleuren, is haar advies. Rikke's bank is al 10 jaar oud en de meeste prints zijn cadeau's van haar ouders. Zie jij het?

Fleming Lassen's chairs sold at world record prices

Do you remember we announced the sale at auction of a few chairs designed by Flemming Lassen? One of them with an estimated price of DKK 1 million? Read the post here.

Well, 'The Tired Man', one of these easy chairs has been sold for a whopping EUR 235.600,-. Estimated price was EUR 83.080,-.
This makes 'The tired man' the most expensive chair ever sold in Denmark. The chair was designed in 1935 and upholstered with light brown sheepskin. It looks quite comfy and inviting indeed.

'Flemming's Chair', the chair estimated at DKK 1 million (EUR 135.000,-), was sold for EUR 148.000,-.

Flemming Lassen can now bear the title of creator of the four most expensive armchairs in Denmark, and the forgotten architect has been well and truly brought into the spotlight.

Weet je nog dat we schreven over de stoelen van de Deense architect Fleming Lassen die geveild zouden worden? En dat een daarvan geschat werd op DKK 1 miljoen?
De 'uitslag' is bekend: de 'Tired Man' heeft het recordbedrag van EUR 235.600,- opgeleverd. Het is een heel uitnodigende armleunstoel, bekleed met lichtbruin schapenvel. 
'Flemming's Chair' (geschat op DKK 1 miljoen) wisselde van eigenaar voor EUR 148.00,-.

Daarmee is de architect Flemming Lassen weer stevig op de kaart gezet als een van de meest invloedrijke architecten uit de Deense historie. Het record als ontwerper van de 4 duurste stoelen in Denemarken zal voorlopig nog wel even op zijn naam blijven staan.

Nordic Inspiration: home of Nina Holst for sale

One of my favourite Scandinavian blogs is that of Norwegian Nina Holst, Stylizimo.
She shares the regular changes in her home and they are always full of inspiration, particularly if you love lots of white.
Now her current home is for sale. So sad to leave this beautiful place, as she says herself. I agree, but don't we all look forward to seeing what she will do with her brand new one?
Here is a last peek into Nina's house and a rare chance to see the outside of the house as well.

I really like Nina's movie room. We have one in our basement and it's quite dark with black walls and dark furniture. I always fall asleep watching a movie because of the lack of light! So I'm gonna show these photos to my husband to show that it can be a welcoming space too.

Een van mijn favoriete blogs is van de Noorse Nina Holst, Stylizimo. Ze verandert vaak wat aan haar huis en het geeft altijd weer nieuwe inspiratie, vooral als je van veel wit houdt.
Nu staat haar huidige huis te koop en ik ben nu al benieuwd wat ze met het volgende gaat doen!
Daarom een laatste blik in Nina's huis inclusief de buitenkant (die je tenslotte niet vaak te zien krijgt...).

Mij viel de filmkamer met het projectiescherm meteen op. Wij hebben ook zo'n kamer in onze kelder, maar die is met veel zwarttinten ingericht. Ik val altijd in slaap bij een film omdat het er zo donker is! Goed om te zien dat het ook anders kan.

Nordic Inspiration: fashion stylist Kim Grenaa's home in Vesterbro

Although I enjoy many many images of beautiful homes on the internet, it's rare that I come across a home where I absolutely love EVERYTHING.
This one is a fine example and I love sharing it with you.
The apartment in the Vesterbro area of Copenhagen is the home of fashion stylist Kim Grenaa and his family of boyfriend and the bull terrier Agnes.

The space is only 80 m2, but by keeping the furniture to a minimum and cleverly placing mirrors, it feels a lot bigger. Kim controls the amount of furniture by his rule "one new item in means one item out". The huge sliding balcony doors also increase the space and let in a lot of welcome sunshine.

Ik kan erg genieten van interieurfoto's op het internet, maar mijn hart maakt altijd een sprongetje als ik zo'n juweeltje tegenkom waarin ik ALLES geweldig vind.
Dit is een goed voorbeeld. Het appartement in de wijk Vesterbro in Kopenhagen wordt bewoond door modestylist Kim Grenaa en zijn gezin, bestaande uit zijn vriend en hun bull terrier Agnes.

Het totale oppervlak is maar 80 m2, maar door de hoeveelheid meubels tot een minimum te beperken en slim gebruik te maken van grote spiegelwanden, ziet het er een stuk groter uit. Kim heeft een regel die hij zo consequent mogelijk toepast: "iets nieuws erin is iets ouds eruit". De grote openslaande deuren naar het balkon  maken de ruimte ook nog eens groter en laten een welkome hoeveelheid zonlicht binnenvallen.
